The 34th Arab Summit concluded its proceedings on Saturday evening, 17 May 2025, in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, culminating in the adoption of the final communiqué, named "the Baghdad Declaration."

Following the summit’s conclusion, Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid took to social media platform X to express his pride in Iraq’s successful hosting of the event. He stated:

"Our capital, Baghdad, successfully hosted the Arab Summit and its distinguished guests, including leaders, heads of state, and heads of participating delegations. This milestone affirms Iraq’s commitment to playing a vital role in the region, advancing a foreign policy rooted in the principles of security, stability, and peace. Together, we strive to strengthen economic, trade, and cultural ties that benefit the peoples of our region, who have endured much and deserve nothing less from us."

In his closing address at the Arab Summit, President Rashid emphasised the importance of Arab unity, noting:

"The Arab Summit held in Baghdad seeks to consolidate Arab efforts. We aspire to outcomes that will ensure a better future for our nations."

He proceeded to formally read the Baghdad Declaration, which outlined the key resolutions and shared positions adopted by the member states.

The Palestinian issue dominated the first section of the declaration, which reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause and called for an “immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza.”

On the Syrian issue, the declaration expressed respect for the choices of the Syrian people in all their diversity, while emphasising the importance of Syria’s unity and territorial integrity. The leaders highlighted the necessity of an inclusive political transition that upholds social cohesion and respects the beliefs and sacred sites of all communities within Syrian society.

The declaration also welcomed the recent announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump to lift sanctions imposed on Syria.

Additionally, the statement called for a national dialogue conference involving all Syrian factions. It praised Iraq, in its current capacity as president of the Arab League, for offering to host the conference in coordination with the League’s General Secretariat and its member states. The proposed dialogue aims to promote national reconciliation and foster inclusive coexistence.
