The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has announced that it will begin accepting candidate lists from coalitions, political parties, and independent candidates starting from 25th May, for a period of one month. The Commission also confirmed that over 1.2 million people have now updated their voter information.

According to the official Iraqi News Agency, Imad Jamil, head of the IHEC’s media team, stated: “The Board of Commissioners has issued a decision to begin receiving candidate lists for the upcoming elections from 25th May until 24th June. This includes lists from political coalitions, parties, and individual candidates.”

He further noted: “On another front, the Commission has observed a notable increase in the rate of voter registration updates, with biometric data updates now reaching 1.214 million. There has been a strong turnout at registration centres in various governorates, particularly Baghdad, Nineveh, and Basra, where more than 4 million citizens have yet to update their records.”
