The Presidency of the Republic of Iraq has expressed its support for the Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKK) decision to pursue a peaceful resolution to the armed conflict, underscoring that the only effective means of addressing issues and disputes is through dialogue and mutual understanding.
The text of the statement reads as follows:
We express our full support for the resolution taken by the PKK Congress to adopt a peaceful and democratic approach to ending the armed conflict.
We welcome this move as a constructive and encouraging step towards bolstering security and stability in the region. It opens the door to a new chapter of sincere and meaningful dialogue, and lays the groundwork for a comprehensive and enduring peace that could bring an end to decades of conflict, hardship, and suffering. This marks the beginning of a significant phase of political, diplomatic, and parliamentary engagement.
As we have consistently emphasised—and once again reaffirm—we believe the sole path to resolving disputes and crises lies in sitting at the table of dialogue and mutual understanding. Accordingly, we reiterate our support for all peace efforts aimed at ending bloodshed, fostering coexistence, strengthening democracy, and safeguarding the rights of all parties.
We further reaffirm our support for peace initiatives that strive to build constructive and sustainable relations based on mutual respect and common interests, while upholding sovereignty and advancing the security, stability, and prosperity of our people.
