Iraq Imposes Protest Ban Ahead of Arab League Summit

The Iraqi Interior Ministry announced on Saturday, 10 May 2025, that all demonstrations and protests will be prohibited across the country for a period of ten days, starting from Sunday, 11 May.

In an official statement, the Ministry declared: "From 11 May to 20 May 2025, all demonstrations and protests in Iraq will be banned."

The Ministry added that security forces have been instructed to take all necessary legal measures to prevent any unauthorised gatherings.

It noted that the decision has been made to ensure the safety and security of dignitaries attending the Arab League Summit, which is set to take place in Baghdad on 17 May 2025.
