Kurdistan Region Vice-President Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa received Australian Ambassador to Iraq Glenn Miles on Monday, 5 May 2025.

During the meeting, the two officials discussed recent political and security developments in Iraq and the wider region, bilateral relations between Australia and the Kurdistan Region, the formation of the new Kurdistan Regional Government cabinet, and ongoing issues between Erbil and Baghdad, as well as other matters of mutual interest.

Both parties underscored the significance of relations between Australia and the Kurdistan Region and affirmed their mutual commitment to further strengthening ties and enhancing cooperation between them.

Furthermore, they agreed that outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad should be resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding, within the framework of the constitution, to ensure peace and stability in the region and to safeguard the country’s best interests.
