Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, welcomed Dr. Ali Qaradaghi, President of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, during a meeting held on Sunday, 4 May 2025.
The meeting, which also included Dr. Mariwan Ahmed Rashid, President of the University of Human Development, and Engineer Hussein Najmadin Rasul, Chairman of the Executive Council of the Humanitarian League, provided an opportunity for Deputy Prime Minister Talabani to commend Dr Qaradaghi’s efforts in fostering a spirit of coexistence within the region. He expressed his hope that Dr Qaradaghi would play an expanded role in supporting the peace process in Türkiye and in efforts to resolve ongoing conflicts in Syria and Western Kurdistan.
Dr. Qaradaghi, in turn, reflected on the significant contributions of the late President Mam Jalal in the political landscape of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. He highlighted President Mam Jalal’s historic role in the Kurdish liberation movement and his commitment to serving all political parties and organisations, regardless of their ideological stance.
Both parties underscored the importance of unity among Kurdish political groups in response to regional developments and agreed on the need for concerted efforts to secure the greatest possible gains for the Kurdish people.
