PUK VP Urges Party's Lawmakers to Be Guardians of Kurdistan People

Rafaat Abdullah, Vice President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met on Sunday, 4 May 2025, with the party's representatives in the Iraqi Parliament, reiterating the importance of unity in Baghdad to secure the legitimate rights of the Kurdish people. He called on the lawmakers to serve as steadfast guardians of the people of Kurdistan.
According to a statement from the Vice President’s press office, the meeting took place at the PUK Political Bureau headquarters in Sulaymaniyah and was attended by Nizar Amedi, a member of the Political Bureau, along with Leadership Council members Shalaw Sheikh Salah and Stran Abdullah.
At the outset of the meeting, the head of the PUK parliamentary bloc and his colleagues provided a detailed briefing on their legislative activities in the Iraqi Parliament. They reaffirmed their firm commitment to defending the rights and hard-won achievements of the Kurdish people.
Vice President Abdullah commended the PUK bloc for their active role and national performance in Baghdad, stating: “Continue, as always, to defend the constitutional rights and demands of the Kurdish people in the Iraqi Parliament.”
Emphasising the importance of cooperation among Kurdish representatives, he added: “Unity, collaboration, and coordinated efforts among Kurdish blocs in Baghdad are essential for passing legislation and advancing the rights and goals of the people of Kurdistan.”
Abdullah also outlined the future responsibilities of the PUK parliamentary bloc. Reflecting on their historic role in championing the rights of Kurdistan’s citizens, he urged them to remain unwavering in their mission, especially as public expectations continue to grow.
“With the enduring legacy of President Mam Jalal and the valiant spirit of the Peshmerga, make the parliament a forum for upholding the constitutional and legal rights of the people of Kurdistan. Always remain true guardians of your nation,” he concluded.
