Deputy PM: Our Door is Open to International Companies

Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to fostering international investment, where he announced: Our door is open to international companies to come and invest in the Region."
A contract for the development of the Bazyan Power Plant in Sulaymaniyah was officially signed on Sunday, 27 April 2025. During the signing ceremony, Deputy PM Talabani highlighted the significance of the agreement, stating: "We are pleased that two energy companies have chosen to invest in the Kurdistan Region by concluding this contract. Their efforts have brought the latest innovations in electricity generation to Sulaymaniyah."
He further added: "This contract marks a major step forward in strengthening our electricity infrastructure and advancing the private sector and the economy of the Kurdistan Region. It also sends a clear message to the international community that Kurdistan welcomes the world’s leading companies to invest here, so that together we can work toward a brighter and more developed future for Kurdistan."
Deputy PM Talabani further stated: "I extend my warm welcome to the representatives of General Electric, Taurus Energy, and the U.S. Consul General. I also express my gratitude to all international companies who have not let propagandas about Sulaymaniyah slow down their efforts, ensuring that the city remains at the forefront of Iraq’s reconstruction."
He added: "This contract will enable generating one-third of Kurdistan’s electricity needs in the future, bringing us closer to achieving round-the-clock power supply. Local engineers and technical staff will participate in advanced training programmes on global systems, as skilled human resources are the cornerstone of any nation’s development. These initiatives will create new employment opportunities for our youth, equipping them with expertise in modern technologies."
He said: "Investors are committed to building a robust economy for the Region, particularly in the energy sector. As a government, we will facilitate all necessary procedures for companies, with a strong emphasis on clean and environmentally friendly energy solutions inside the Region.”
