IHEC Iraq Elections Iraqi parliament

Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) announced on Sunday, 27 April 2025, that approximately 900,000 citizens have renewed their voter cards in preparation for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Emad Jamil, head of the IHEC’s media team, stated that the voter registration process is underway at around 1,790 centres across Iraq, operating daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. He highlighted that citizens are permitted to renew their voter cards at any registration center nationwide, regardless of their province of origin.

The IHEC began the voter card and biometric data renewal process on 24 March 2025, with the campaign scheduled to continue until 23 May. The initiative is part of broader efforts to ensure a transparent and inclusive electoral process, ahead of Iraq’s parliamentary elections set for 11 November 2025.

The previous parliamentary elections, held on 10 October 2021, resulted in the selection of 329 members for the fifth session of the Iraqi Parliament. Voter turnout for that election stood at 42.15%, and the new parliament convened for its inaugural session on 9 January 2022.
