Baghdad’s Rusafa Court has issued a detention order for Rakan al-Jibouri, the former acting governor of Kirkuk, on charges of corruption and harming public funds.

Sabah Habib, a member of Iraq’s parliament representing the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc, told PUKMEDIA: “Rakan al-Jibouri has been detained under Article 340, which pertains to the conduct of public employees and administrative officials, specifically regarding harming public funds.”

"Jubouri was detained today in connection with two separate corruption cases involving financial discrepancies in two projects, where significant sums of money are reported missing," he added.

He further stated that Jubouri is currently under investigation for five corruption cases, as several parliamentarians and other individuals have previously lodged formal complaints against him in Kirkuk and Baghdad courts.

Jibouri served as the acting governor of Kirkuk from October 2017 until August 11, 2024.
