Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received Ali Akbar Salehi, former Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in Dabashan, Sulaymaniyah.
The meeting highlighted the longstanding, friendly relations between the two countries across various sectors, emphasising a mutual commitment to safeguarding their highest national interests."
The meeting addressed the political and security situation in the Middle East, underscoring the importance of coordination and cooperation among all parties to uphold stability, promote peace, and prevent the escalation of tensions in the region.
President Bafel expressed optimism regarding the recent negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, viewing them as a potentially significant step toward addressing ongoing challenges. He reiterated that a peaceful resolution remains the most effective path to achieving mutual understanding and agreement on key issues.
Salehi respectfully acknowledged the pivotal role played by President Mam Jalal in laying the foundation for a strong relationship between the two sides. He expressed his appreciation for the fact that the PUK continues to uphold the same principled approach and steadfast commitment today.
