Iraqi Presidency Commends Parliament for Historic Passing Halabja Provincialisation Bill

The Iraqi Presidency commended the parliament for passing the Halabja Provincialisation Bill on Monday, 14 April 2025, describing the move as a historic and long-awaited move that constitutes a meaningful step toward the realisation of justice and the honouring of the martyrs who perished in one of the most atrocious crimes in contemporary history.
The Presidency of the Republic extends its warmest congratulations to the people of Halabja on the occasion of the Council of Representatives’ approval of the Law for the Establishment of Halabja as an official governorate," the Presidency said in a statement.
This historic and long-awaited move constitutes a meaningful step toward the realisation of justice and the honouring of the martyrs who perished in one of the most atrocious crimes in contemporary history," it added.
"On this momentous occasion, we express our profound gratitude and appreciation to the Presidency of the Council of Representatives and to all honourable members of Parliament for their affirmative vote," it said.
"This legislation reflects a deep commitment to national equity and a sincere acknowledgement of the suffering of a city that has become an enduring symbol of humanity in the Iraqi and global conscience," it added.
