Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region.
Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, emphasised that the Anfal genocide and other atrocities committed against the Kurdish people are integral to their historical identity.
In a post commemorating the anniversary of the Anfal genocide, which falls today, 14 April, Qubad Talabani stated: "Our homeland has endured numerous wounds and hardships throughout history. It has been hurt on all sides every day, but none of these wounds is more painful or profound than the Anfal." He added: "This wound will not heal until the Kurdish people are certain that they will never again face such extermination, and until the remains of the last Anfal victim are brought home."
The Deputy PM further remarked: "The Anfal massacre stands as one of the most heinous crimes in human history, alongside the Holocaust and the Armenian genocide. As such, future generations must be made aware of the stories of Anfal, for these atrocities are part of our historical identity."
He concluded with: "On this solemn anniversary, we honour the pure souls of our martyrs and bow in reverence to the families of those who perished in the Anfal campaign."
