The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) confirmed today, Wednesday 9 April 2025, that it is fully prepared to conduct the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections, following the date set by the Iraqi Council of Ministers.

Jumana al-Ghalai, the spokesperson for the IHEC, told PUKMEDIA: "The Commission is ready to conduct the legislative elections on the scheduled date."

The announcement comes after the Council of Ministers convened earlier today, chaired by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani. During the meeting, the Council voted to set 11 November 2025 as the official date for the legislative elections.

Al-Ghalai further explained: "The election date is determined by the Council of Ministers in coordination with the IHEC, ensuring it takes place at least 45 days before the conclusion of the current parliamentary term, which began with the first session of the Iraqi parliament on 9 January 2022. This means the election must occur before 25 November 2025, making 11 November 2025 the legally compliant date."

The most recent parliamentary elections were held on 10 October 2021, with 329 members elected. Voter turnout stood at 42.15%, and the first session of the current parliament was held on 9 January 2022.
