Türkiye’s attacks on Kurdistan areas.
The Kurdistan Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT) has reported that the Turkish army launched 404 attacks and airstrikes on the Kurdistan Region during the first three months of 2025, resulting in the deaths of two civilians, injuries to four others, and the destruction of five natural caves.
In a report detailing the attacks in March, the CPT stated: “Following the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)’s unilateral ceasefire announcement, the Turkish army carried out 118 attacks on the Kurdistan Region during March alone.”
The report highlighted that in the first week after Abdullah Öcalan, the imprisoned PKK leader, issued a call for peace, Turkish bombardment increased by 145% compared to the two weeks preceding the truce announcement. However, overall Turkish attacks in March declined by 12% compared to January and by 21% compared to February.
According to the report, the Turkish army conducted:
• 55 attacks on the border areas of Erbil Governorate,
• 51 attacks on the border areas of Duhok Governorate,
• 12 attacks on the border areas of Sulaymaniyah Governorate during March.
Additionally, the Kurdistan CPT team noted that Turkish military operations on the administrative borders of Erbil Governorate increased by 120% compared to February. The report also revealed that the Turkish army destroyed five natural caves using TNT last month.
The findings confirm that Turkish military actions in the Kurdistan Region remained persistent in early 2025, despite the PKK’s ceasefire, raising concerns over the ongoing conflict’s impact on civilians and regional stability.
