The biggest US Consulate set to open soon.
The largest US consulate in the Kurdistan Region is set to open soon, with the US State Department confirming that the consulate building in Erbil will be inaugurated next month or in the near future.
Speaking at a press conference, US State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated: “The new US consulate will open next month or later this year in Erbil, and it will be the largest US consulate.”
She further emphasised: “The opening of the consulate underscores the United States’ commitment to the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, strengthening our partnership and diplomatic cooperation with the Kurdistan Region and the Government of Iraq to advance shared interests, combat terrorism, and promote lasting peace.”
She also highlighted the significance of government formation in both regions, stressing that a unified force is the most effective approach. “We have encouraged all parties to expedite the formation of the government, and we will continue to support a strong democracy, as we always have, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.”
She reiterated Washington’s call for the swift formation of the government and the completion of this process without further delay.
According to available information, the consulate will be constructed on a 50-dunam site and will serve as a hub for diplomatic, economic, and cultural engagement in the Region, reflecting Washington’s enduring commitment to regional stability and prosperity. To date, 85% of the construction has been completed.
