The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) spokesperson commended the Iraqi parliament's Kurdish blocs for their unity in endorsing the Halabja Provincialisation Bill.
"I praise the Kurdish blocs in the Iraqi parliament for their unity and solidarity to officially recognise Halabja as a province," said PUK Spokesperson Saadi Ahmed Pire in a message praising the Kurdish blocs in the Iraqi parliament.
"Any action taken against Halabja is disgraceful and would be equivalent to another chemical attack," Pire remarked.
Pire's statement coincides with the Iraqi parliament's attempts to approve the Halabja Provincialisation Bill. Despite being on the parliament's agenda five times, the bill has failed to pass because of Arab bloc objections.
The PUK bloc, along with other Kurdish blocs, vowed to boycott further parliamentary sessions unless the agenda includes a vote on the Halabja Provincialisation Bill. This move effectively blocks the passage of any other legislation until the matter is addressed.
