On the first part of President Bafel Jalal Talabani’s visit to Kirkuk, the purpose of which was to follow up on the implementation of the PUK’s promises, the appointment of a governor, and the pledges made to the citizens of Kirkuk during the elections, he met with prominent religious scholars and professors in Kirkuk at the Political Bureau building.

President Bafel addressed the people of Kirkuk, saying: "In line with the policy of honouring the late President Mam Jalal, we are managing Kirkuk and delivering services. As a result, the new administration and governor have managed, in a very short time, to provide services across all sectors and place the local government at the service of the cherished people of Kirkuk."
President Bafel expressed his gratitude to the Kirkuk Governor and reiterated his support for him, stating: "Kirkuk is, for us, the sacred city of Kurdistan and will always remain so. Serving Kirkuk will remain our priority because the people of Kirkuk deserve the best of services."
