Stran Abdullah, member of the PUK Leadership Council.
Stran Abdullah, a member of the Leadership Council of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), confirmed that the PUK Forum is crucial for debating about the PUK's future development and policies.
Abdullah told PUKMEDIA: "Plans for the PUK's development are created by the PUK cadres, and the forum's conclusions are then brought to the Leadership Council for a vote before becoming PUK policy."
He added: "Given how much the PUK values Kirkuk, the eighth preparatory conference, which is scheduled for tomorrow in Kirkuk, is crucial. In order for the PUK's programme to move forward, we really hope that every PUK cadre will take part in the conference events with enthusiasm and share their thoughts and suggestions."
Furthermore, he said: "The region is going through significant changes, as you are aware. Just as Iraq is heading towards parliamentary elections, we in the Kurdistan Region are heading towards a new government. There have also been significant improvements and a shift towards peace in the Kurdish issue in Syria and Türkiye. Promoting peace in the Middle East is a major and crucial task for the PUK and its President, Bafel Jalal Talabani. Both are taking the late President Mam Jalal's lead in resolving conflicts via peace and dialogue."
He explained: "The purpose of the conferences is to get ready for the extended 2nd PUK Forum, which PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani will attend. A new vision and the PUK's preparations for a new stage of political life and governance in the Kurdistan Region will also be reformulated and discussed. The conferences will be attended by PUK cadres, notable individuals, and other components."
The Kirkuk preparatory conference for the 2nd Forum of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, 26 March 2025.
The 8th preparatory conference for the 2nd PUK Forum will take place in Kirkuk and will cover a wide range of crucial topics, according to the Secretariat of the Senior Committee responsible for organising the 2nd PUK Forum.
According to a statement released by the forum's Senior Committee, Kirkuk will host the eighth preparatory conference for the 2nd PUK Forum on Wednesday, 26 March 2025.
"The best policies for Kirkuk, Kurdistan, and Iraq, as well as the best ways to accomplish the PUK's objectives, shall be discussed by the Kirkuk-Saladin comrades," the statement said.
The 8th conference follows a series of preparatory conferences in Mosul, Badinan, Koya, Erbil, Garmian-Khanaqin, Halabja-Sharazur, and Sulaymaniyah.
The 2nd PUK Forum, which will be held under the slogan "A new vision, with strength, progress, and services," consists of these smaller preparatory conferences, during which intensive debates and dialogues are held to prepare for the themes to be deliberated upon during the broader forum.
The forum aims to develop and debate a new vision for the PUK's preparations for the next phase of political work and governance in the Kurdistan Region. It also seeks to enhance the PUK's position and influence both within the Region and internationally, by formulating strategies to adapt to the ongoing changes and developments.
According to the bylaws of the PUK, the party must hold periodic forums to prepare for a new stage of political life and governance. The 1st PUK Forum was launched on 12 March 2022 under the supervision of Qubad Talabani and concluded on 31 May 2022. It played a key role in shaping the party’s policies across various sectors and became a cornerstone of the PUK’s broader strategy.
