The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) is committed to transforming itself into an alive and influential party, a member of the party's Political Bureau said, stressing that the renewal that PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani is calling for is not only a goal, but also a tool to strengthen the party's position and consolidate democracy within the party.
PUK Politburo Member Dr. Yousif Goran wrote in an article published in the opinion section of PUKMEDIA Kurdish: "The PUK is preparing to hold a broad party forum in Kirkuk, which is another step towards consolidating party life in a contemporary format that satisfies the demands of the current situation, as well as the geopolitical and social changes that are currently occurring in Iraq and Kirkuk in particular, as well as in the region in general."
"The forum is one of a series that the party is holding across the Kurdistan Region, showing the clear approach that the leadership has taken to strengthen the party's internal structure and broaden the scope of organisational and political debate," Dr. Goran wrote.
He added: "Thus, the Kirkuk forum is the tangible manifestation of this strategy, as it enhances the earlier forums and opens the door for the development of a new party culture founded on cooperation and transparency rather than centralisation and closed-door tactics."
Furthermore, he wrote: "Through this forum, the PUK is showcasing its dedication to becoming an alive and powerful party that isn't content with empty rhetoric or theoretical frameworks but instead confidently works to create simple domestic institutions that represent the wishes of the party's founders and meet the needs of the reality."
"The renewal that PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani is calling for is not merely a goal, but also a tool for fortifying the party's standing and solidifying its internal democracy so that it may carry out its humanitarian and national responsibilities in Kurdistan and Iraq," he added.
The Kirkuk preparatory conference for the 2nd Forum of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, 26 March 2025.
The 8th preparatory conference for the 2nd PUK Forum will take place in Kirkuk and will cover a wide range of crucial topics, according to the Secretariat of the Senior Committee responsible for organising the 2nd PUK Forum.
According to a statement released by the forum's Senior Committee, Kirkuk will host the eighth preparatory conference for the 2nd PUK Forum on Wednesday, 26 March 2025.
"The best policies for Kirkuk, Kurdistan, and Iraq, as well as the best ways to accomplish the PUK's objectives, shall be discussed by the Kirkuk-Saladin comrades," the statement said.
The 8th conference follows a series of preparatory conferences in Mosul, Badinan, Koya, Erbil, Garmian-Khanaqin, Halabja-Sharazur, and Sulaymaniyah.
The 2nd PUK Forum, which will be held under the slogan "A new vision, with strength, progress, and services," consists of these smaller preparatory conferences, during which intensive debates and dialogues are held to prepare for the themes to be deliberated upon during the broader forum.
The forum aims to develop and debate a new vision for the PUK's preparations for the next phase of political work and governance in the Kurdistan Region. It also seeks to enhance the PUK's position and influence both within the Region and internationally, by formulating strategies to adapt to the ongoing changes and developments.
According to the bylaws of the PUK, the party must hold periodic forums to prepare for a new stage of political life and governance. The 1st PUK Forum was launched on 12 March 2022 under the supervision of Qubad Talabani and concluded on 31 May 2022. It played a key role in shaping the party’s policies across various sectors and became a cornerstone of the PUK’s broader strategy.
