Abdulbasit Khalid, chairman of the disgruntled Turkmen Political Council.
The head of the opposition Turkmen Political Council demanded that the Turkmen be given senior positions in the new government and that they be taken into consideration while forming the new Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) cabinet.
"I speak for the Turkmen who side with political parties and are unable to express themselves openly, and I will be owner of the Turkmen people who have no owner because the Turkmen cannot be marginalised," Abdulbasit Khalid, chairman of the opposition Turkmen Political Council in Erbil, told the media.
"We demand that the Turkmen play a significant part in the civil, government, and provincial council positions and that the Turkmen community be considered while forming the next cabinet," Khalid added.
"The Turkmen nation should be granted senior positions in the ministries and hold a role in the presidency of the government, the Region, and the parliament," he said.
"There has never been a governor like Dr. Rebwar Taha in the history of Kirkuk province, because he is a brave governor who serves all the communities of Kirkuk regardless of their nationality," he said.
Kurdistan parliamentary elections were held in October of last year, and the Kurdistan Region is currently awaiting the formation of its new cabinet.
It is anticipated that the two victorious parties, the PUK and the KDP, will come to an agreement to form the next government as a number of parties have already stated that they will function as opposition parties in the parliament.
