Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) announced on Monday, 24 March 2025, that it will begin updating the voter registry starting Tuesday, 25 March 2025, adding that the process will continue for one month.
"The updating process will begin tomorrow, 25 March, and will continue for a month," IHEC Spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai told PUKMEDIA.
"The update process includes first-time registrations, additions, corrections, changes, deletions, the registration of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP), and the registration of security forces," she noted, adding that the IHEC is receiving voters at 1,079 registration centers across Iraq's governorates to update their data.
She further explained that "registration of IDPs is being carried out exclusively within displacement camps, with the exception of IDPs from Sinjar District, who will be registered within the camps and outside of the camps, based on data from the Ministry of Migration and Displacement."
Iraq is gearing up for its highly anticipated legislative elections in November 2025, as according to the law, elections must be held every four years in the country. The last parliamentary elections were held in 2021.
