Iraq's Integrity Commission announced the issuance of two in absentia rulings against a former official in the Kirkuk Tax Department/First District, for committing bribery and tampering with tax records.

The Commission said in a statement on Sunday, 23 March 2025, that the Kirkuk Criminal Court sentenced in absentia the fugitive defendant (Hanaa Abdulkarim Hassan Al-Bayati), who worked as the head of the Lands and Plots Division in the Kirkuk Tax Department/First District, to six years in prison and a fine on the grounds that she accepted a bribe in exchange for processing a tax transaction in violation of the law, instructions, and regulations.

The statement added that the same court issued another ruling in absentia against the fugitive defendant, sentencing her to four years of hard labor for manipulating a tax calculation transaction for a property, after reducing the tax amount in violation of the law, instructions, and issued administrative orders.
