Kurdistan Halabja Iraq Ba'ath regime

Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, recalled the Halabja Chemical Attack, stating that commemorating the occasion is a moment to understand the common fate that all the Kurdish people share.

On 16 March 1988, the fallen Iraqi Ba'ath regime bombed the city of Halabja with banned chemical weapons, martyring over 5000 innocent Kurdish civilians, including women, children, and the elderly. The attack also injured more than 10,000 others, most of whom still suffer from their wounds to this day.

Deputy PM Talabani said in his message for the anniversary of the Halabja Chemical Attack:

Commemorating the wounds of Halabja, Anfal and other sufferings is not just a simple commemoration, but an occasion to think about our existence and history... It is a moment to reflect on the tragedies and miseries that have befallen our nation and a moment to understand our common fate as the Kurdish people as a whole.

On the 37th anniversary of the chemical attack on Halabja, we pay tribute to all the martyrs and their proud families.

Halabja is an unforgettable wound.
