The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) is continually striving to promote peace, not only within the region but across other parts of Kurdistan and the broader area and it has played a pivotal role in this mission, particularly in northern and western Kurdistan.
Latif Nerweyi, a Leadership Council member and Head of the PUK's Media Board, stated in an interview with PUKMEDIA: "Since the fall of the Assad regime, Mr. Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the PUK, has sent four letters to the Kurds in western Kurdistan, the most recent of which was yesterday, following the agreement between the Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, and Syria's interim President, Ahmed al-Sharaa."
Nerweyi continued: "The PUK, particularly President Bafel Jalal Talabani, has played a key role in gaining international support for Rojava. His significant efforts contributed to reaching this agreement, which is a major achievement for the people of Kurdistan and vital for establishing stability, coexistence, and the foundation of a new Syria."
He also said that as the PUK, they take pride in standing firmly for nationalism and the establishment of peace. This agreement is of great significance for the Kurdistan Region as it will aid in the return of displaced persons, the reopening of border crossings, and the revitalisation of trade, benefiting both parties. He emphasised: "Security, political, and administrative stability in Syria will have positive repercussions for the region and will also positively impact the peace process in Türkiye and northern Kurdistan. The PUK has worked towards this since the 1990s, and President Mam Jalal is regarded as the architect of the peace process in northern Kurdistan."
He concluded by stating that President Bafel's clear and candid stance on the Kurdish issue in both western and northern Kurdistan extends the legacy of President Mam Jalal, who always believed that the only way to resolve conflicts was through dialogue and peace. "In the Kurdistan Region, too, the PUK remains committed to open dialogue with all political forces and parties to find solutions to the region's problems," he added.
