PUK Forum 2025.
Today, Thursday, the fifth preparatory conference for the second Forum of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) began in the Garmian administration.
At the opening of the conference, Sherko Mirwais, a member of the Leadership Council of the PUK, addressed the attendees in a speech, which was followed by PUKMEDIA. He welcomed everyone and highlighted the significance of the second Forum, noting that it is being held under circumstances quite different from the first Forum, which took place in previous years.
He also explained that the Forum would focus on the organisational structure, future policies of the PUK, its regional relations, and the role of women and youth within the party, as well as other important issues.
Sherko Mirwais stated that the PUK is a party of martyrs, struggle, and sacrifice, standing by the people during difficult times. He emphasised that the public supports the party and sees it as the hope for advancing the future of the Kurdistan Region.
He further explained that, during the course of the fifth conference, they would work as a unified team to gather all proposals and opinions and present them to the Supreme Committee of the second Forum.
Following this, Sheikh Ahmed Hama Karim, a member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s Political Bureau, delivered a speech and mentioned that they would collaborate with their comrades in the PUK organisations in Garmian to present opinions and suggestions that would enhance the second Forum.
He added that the PUK is a longstanding party and a protector of democracy in the Kurdistan Region, setting itself apart from other parties by allowing its cadres to freely express their opinions and proposals. The PUK is the party that can push forward the development of the Kurdistan Region.
Moreover, the member of the Political Bureau remarked that many of the recommendations from the first PUK Forum had been implemented, with many valuable proposals and opinions. The Forum resulted in the election of a unified Leadership for the PUK, led by President Bafel Jalal Talabani, a leadership that holds considerable weight both in Iraq and internationally. The first Forum solidified the PUK as a party with a unified voice and stance.
He concluded by stating that, as the formation of the Kurdistan Regional Government nears, the PUK is eager to hear the opinions and suggestions of its cadres on how the government should be formed and its future direction. They are committed to fulfilling all promises made to the citizens, working to correct the course of governance in the Kurdistan Region, and, through this, serving the people and realising their aspirations.
Afterwards, Salar Mahmoud, a member of the Supreme Committee of the Second PUK Forum, stated: "We are holding this forum as we approach the 50th anniversary of the founding of the PUK, and we will work with the spirit of the uprising to rectify the course of governance in the Kurdistan Region."
He continued: "The PUK Forum will focus on party management and the recruitment of young people. Following the first forum, we worked towards holding the fifth conference and then achieved a significant victory in the elections. Therefore, during the second Forum, we will aim to develop party operations and discuss the next steps for the PUK."
