Deputy Prime Minister, Qubad Talabani.
Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, issued a message to mark the 34th anniversary of the Kurdistan People's Uprising in 1991.
The message reads as follows:
With deep respect and appreciation, we remember the monumental uprising of our people.
This uprising was, on one hand, the result of decades of struggle and sacrifices made by the people of Kurdistan, and on the other hand, the outcome of the unity and collaboration between the citizens and political parties of Kurdistan at the time.
The primary aims of the uprising were to secure the rights of the people of Kurdistan, as well as freedom and justice. While it is true that, due to shortcomings in governance and other factors, we were unable to fully achieve some of the uprising's goals, we believe that, at this stage, our task is to steer governance in the right direction. By establishing a strong, effective government and reinforcing government institutions, we can take another significant step towards fully achieving the uprising’s objectives.
This year, as we mark the anniversary of the uprising, there is a renewed sense of hope and optimism regarding peace and the strengthening of Kurdish rights in Türkiye. We hope that the peace process will succeed this time, allowing the Kurdish people in Türkiye to enjoy their rightful freedoms.
On this anniversary, we honour the memory of the martyrs of the uprising and all those who gave their lives in the liberation movement of our people.
