The Federal Ministry of Oil has announced that it will receive approximately 185,000 barrels per day from the Kurdistan Region as the first phase of resumed oil exports via the Turkish port of Cihan. The quantity is expected to gradually increase to 400,000 barrels per day.

Basim Mohammed Khudair, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Extraction Affairs, explained that the recent halt in oil exports from the Kurdistan Region caused issues for the region's oil fields, which now require rehabilitation to restore production. The goal is to reach an export target of 400,000 barrels per day, the minimum set in the budget.

Currently, 300,000 barrels per day are available for export, with 185,000 allocated for this purpose, while some of the total is used internally. A delegation from the Ministry visited the Kurdistan Region, where joint committees were set up to oversee the resumption of exports.

Khudair also mentioned that technical teams from the North Oil Company and the Kurdistan Region are inspecting the oil export pipelines to ensure they are ready for operation. The Ministry of Oil has contacted Turkish authorities regarding the readiness of the pipeline for export via Cihan, expecting a response within 24 hours.

He stressed the Ministry’s commitment to continuing exports through the Cihan port, highlighting the importance of Iraq’s strategic relationship with Türkiye and maintaining ongoing communication with both the Region and Türkiye to ensure continued cooperation.
