On International Mother Language Day, Qubad Talabani pays tribute to the writers, poets, linguists and caring people who have served and developed the Kurdish language despite all the pressure and threats on our language.

Talabani said in a message he published on International Mother Language Day, which falls of February 21: “On the World Mother Language Day, we pay tribute to all the writers, poets, linguists and caring people who have served and developed the Kurdish language."

"Despite all of the pressures and dangers to our language, they have endured a great deal of bitterness and sleepless nights to preserve the Kurdish language as our nation's identity," he wrote.

"To preserve the Kurdish language at the current stage, we must develop it, and support the loyal and caring individuals who try to adapt it to modern sciences and changes," he noted.

"I am a Kurd... my mother language is Kurdish," he said at the end of his message.
