PUK Forum 2025
Many members of the city's varied communities attended the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan's (PUK) first preparatory conference for the 2nd PUK Forum, which kicked off in Mosul, Nineveh province, on Saturday, 15 February 2025. The head of 2nd PUK Forum's secretariate stated that 700 people participated in the Mosul conference and that the participants are divided over 7 committees.
PUK Consider Mosul as Important
At the beginning of the conference, Aras Mohammed Agha, Head of the PUK's Mosul Centre, welcomed the guests and said: "Launching the forum's preparatory conferences from Mosul demonstrates that the PUK takes the city seriously and works to improve services for the area, particularly in light of the Islamic State's (ISIS) tyranny they faced."
Agha added: "We honour the blood of our martyrs in this region, and the fact that all communities attended the conference demonstrates that the PUK is rooted in the communities and seeks to serve them impartially, following President Mam Jalal's lead. Mosul is seen by PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani as an iconic city for coexistence."
He further stated: "It is our responsibility as the PUK to service this area, which has sadly not been well served. The city's governor has now made significant action to better serve the city's residents. We further stress that Mosul will not tolerate bad individuals and that we are all prepared to sacrifice more to maintain peace."
President Mam Jalal Represented All Iraqis
Nineveh Governor Abdul Qadir Daghil also delivered a speech at the conference, stating: "We view the PUK as the party of Mam Jalal, the man who not only represented the Kurds but also represented the entire Iraqi people. We have reached today thanks to the blood of our martyrs."
"Nineveh has made significant and strategic strides in comparison to the past, and we are working to expand our services and we will not discriminate against any community," Daghil added.
The Preparatory Conferences of the 2nd Forum Will be Held in 11 Different Regions
About the operations of the conference, Fahmi Burhan, the official in charge of the 2nd forum's Secretariat, told PUKMEDIA: "Promoting the PUK's organisational efforts with a fresh political vision and struggle is the conference's main goal. The preparatory conference, which is divided into committees, has about 700 participants. The committees' responsibility is to operate within the goals."He added: "The attendees actively participate in the meeting, and their opinions regarding the PUK's future work will be taken into consideration. They will be split up into seven committees for the three-day Mosul conference."
He further stated: "After that, the committees' recommendations will referred to the forum's secretariat. Following the completion of the eleven preparatory conferences, the second phase of the forum will start."
The PUK Forum, which will be held under the slogan "A new vision, with strength, progress, and services," consists of smaller preparatory conferences, during which intensive debates and dialogues will be held to prepare for the themes to be deliberated upon during the broader forum.
The 2nd Forum aims to prepare for a new stage of political life and governance in the Kurdistan Region. PUK cadres and Mosul figures and communities will take part in the event, which will later be held in all provinces and key regions.
The forum is an attempt to boost the PUK's standing as a significant and influential party in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, the region, and around the world. It is also an endeavour to adapt to the various changes that are occurring.
The 1st PUK Forum was launched on 12 March 2022 under the supervision of Qubad Talabani and concluded on 31 May 2022. It played a key role in shaping the party’s policies across various sectors and became a cornerstone of the PUK’s broader strategy.
