PUK President: There Must be Serious Intention for Genuine Partnership

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received Yann Braem, French Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, in Dabashan, Sulaymaniyah, to discuss the latest political developments in the region, the formation of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad.

President Bafel spoke about the reorganisation and unity of the Kurdish people, as well as the need for an unified political discourse, saying: "We support any decision that is in the best interests of addressing the issues of our people and our region, but there must be a serious intention for collaboration and genuine partnership, as any attempt outside of this national will would be detrimental to our people."

"It is everyone's duty to deal with the situation responsibly and collaborate to develop confidence and form a service-oriented government that serves everyone equally and meets the demands of the people," he stated.

Regarding Syria and West Kurdistan (Rojava), President Bafel stated: "We emphasise that we support respecting the will and rights of all parties, as well as the Kurds' to be an important part of the new Syria, because marginalisation will harm the country's and region's peace and security."
