Qubad Talabani, Mikhail Bogdanov Discuss Regional Stability & Economic Cooperation

Deputy PM’s meeting with Russian Presidential Representative.
Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met with Mikhail Bogdanov, the Special Presidential Representative and Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of Russia, in Erbil on Thursday, 6 February 2025. Their discussions focused on the security and political situation in the region, as well as issues of mutual interest.
Regarding recent developments, Qubad Talabani underscored the necessity of cooperation and collective action among all relevant parties to prevent the resurgence of terrorist organisations and groups in Iraq and Syria.
Concerning the situation in Syria, both sides agreed on the importance of ensuring Kurdish and broader participation of other communities in shaping the country’s new political framework. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasised that “all components of Syria, including the Kurds, must be involved in the redrafting of a new constitution that guarantees the political, cultural, and social rights and freedoms of all groups.”
Another key topic of discussion was the work and activities of Russian companies in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. In this context, both parties stressed the importance of expanding investment projects for Russian companies across various sectors in Kurdistan Region. The Russian delegation, in turn, expressed their country’s willingness to further increase their business operations in both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
