The joint negotiating committee of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) announced the outcomes of their meeting, confirming that their discussions and meetings were constructive, and that they agreed on the majority of the issues.

The PUK-KDP joint negotiating committee held its last meeting in Erbil on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, and issued a joint statement that said: "Following several intensive meetings and constructive discussions, the PUK-KDP joint negotiating committee agreed to collaborate in the next phase of governance in a manner that is suitable for the current sensitive stage and the aspirations of Kurdistan Region citizens."

The meeting resulted in a common understanding and preliminary agreement on the majority of the issues, and the results will be submitted to both sides' Senior Negotiating Delegations for decision-making, according to the statement.

The PUK-KDP joint committee has previously met 4 times to create a draft project for the formation of the new KRG.

Kurdistan parliamentary elections were held in October of last year, and the Kurdistan Region is currently awaiting the formation of its new cabinet.

It is anticipated that the two victorious parties, the PUK and the KDP, will come to an agreement to form the next government because a number of parties have already stated that they will function as opposition parties in the parliament.
