Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid's meeting with KRG Deputy PM Qubad Talabani.
Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid met with Qubad Talabani, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, in Baghdad on Monday, 3 February 2025, emphasising that the amendment to the Iraqi budget law should serve as a beginning point for reaching solutions to the salary issue of the Kurdistan Region's civil servants.
According to a statement by the Iraqi Presidency, the discussions focused on the overall situation in the Kurdistan Region and the need for a viable, constitutional resolution to disputes, including financial entitlements and oil and gas management.
President Rashid underscored the importance of finding sustainable solutions that align with the Iraqi constitution and uphold the rights of all citizens.
The statement also said that the meeting also covered the recent vote in the Iraqi Parliament on the first amendment to the federal general budget law. Participants noted that this amendment should serve as a foundation for addressing KRG civil servant salary payments and resolving broader financial and resource-sharing challenges.
Both sides reaffirmed that Iraq’s natural wealth must be fairly distributed to ensure national development, economic stability and progress.
Deputy Prime Minister Talabani commended President Rashid’s leadership in fostering dialogue and bridging differences, emphasizing the shared goal of securing a free and dignified life for all Iraqis.
