Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani met with Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, on Monday, 3 February 2025, and the two sides agreed to expand areas of institutional cooperation following the Iraqi parliament's approval of amending the budget law.
According to a statement provided by the Iraqi Prime Minister's media office, the most notable national files were evaluated, as well as the best approaches to improve the implementation of the government programme to satisfy the expectations of citizens throughout Iraq.
According to the statement, the meeting included discussion of a number of topics, which are shared responsibilities of the Iraqi and regional governments, resulting from the Iraqi parliament's vote in favour of amending the budget law, which expands areas of institutional cooperation and provides an opportunity to resolve common administrative obstacles.
According to the statement, Prime Minister Sudani emphasised the Iraqi government's support for ongoing dialogues between political forces in Iraq's Kurdistan Region, as well as the importance of completing the formation of the Region's new government in light of the results of the October elections.
The Iraqi parliament voted during its regular session on Sunday, 2 February 2025, on the draft of the first amendment to Article (12) of Law No. (13) of 2023, the federal general budget of the Republic of Iraq for the fiscal years (2023-2024-2025). The amendment will allow the resumption of oil exports from the Kurdistan Region's oil fields.
Under the approved amendment, the actual value of the Kurdistan Region's oil production and transportation has been set at $16 per barrel. This amount will be provided as an advance to the Kurdistan Region until the actual value of oil production and transportation from each field in the Kurdistan Region is determined separately by the competent advisory bodies, after 60 days from the implementation of the Federal General Budget Law.
