The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, has directed the formation of a technical security committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding a recent fire incident at the Khormor field in Sulaymaniyah Governorate.

According to a statement issued by the Security Media Cell, the fire occurred at approximately 19:15 on Sunday within the Khormor field, located in the Qadir Karam District of Sulaymaniyah Governorate. The incident took place at the Dana Gas Company’s facility, where a minor fire broke out near a fuel tank. However, the fire did not affect the tank, nor did it result in any human or material losses. Furthermore, the field's operations and production were not impacted.

The statement also revealed that the Commander-in-Chief has instructed the establishment of a technical security committee to thoroughly investigate the incident. It was further noted that the Joint Operations Command has maintained ongoing communication with field commanders of the Peshmerga units in Sulaymaniyah and surrounding sectors in order to fully understand the details of the situation.

Emphasising the gravity of such incidents, the statement stressed, “Any attempt to sabotage the nation’s economy and harm the people’s livelihoods is an attack on all Iraqis. Our security forces will not tolerate such actions and will pursue all details of this incident. They are fully capable of halting any malicious attempts and will take decisive action against anyone attempting to disrupt the country’s economic security.”

Earlier, the General Directorate of Counter-Terrorism (CTG) reported that the Khormor gas field was targeted in a drone attack on Sunday. According to CTG, intelligence sources suggest the drone was launched from the Bashir area by outlaw groups. The CTG reassured citizens that security forces remain vigilant and will continue to monitor these violations, providing updates as new information becomes available.
