The joint committee of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) is set to meet again tomorrow, January 29, 2025, to create a draft concept for the next Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
A special source told PUKMEDIA that the PUK and KDP are currently discussing the technicalities of forming the new government, and that the joint committee of the two parties will meet again tomorrow.
The source also noted that the joint committee, which has already finished the majority of its work, is in charge of preparing a draft project outlining how the future government would function, after which the final text of the committee's deliberations will be submitted to both sides' high-level delegations.
PUK Spokesperson Saadi Ahmed Pire previously told a press conference that there has been no debate between the PUK and the KDP and that what is claimed concerning the distribution of positions is propaganda; "the PUK does not want any positions unless there is agreement on the government's programme."
He also pointed out: "We've encountered troubles in the past. If we do not solve these problems, they will reoccur in the future."
"Therefore, the PUK emphasises that we are not finding positions for people, but rather finding people for positions, and that once the positions are determined, we will assign the right individuals to the right positions," he added.
The PUK-KDP joint committee has previously met 4 times to create a draft project for the formation of the new KRG.
Kurdistan parliamentary elections were held in October of last year, and the Kurdistan Region is currently awaiting the formation of its new cabinet.
It is anticipated that the two victorious parties, the PUK and the KDP, will come to an agreement to form the next government because a number of parties have already stated that they will function as opposition parties in the parliament.
