Today, Monday marks the 33rd anniversary of the first general forum of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), which took place on 27th January 1992 in Sulaymaniyah.
The event saw the participation of numerous members and cadres of the PUK, alongside guests from both inside and outside Kurdistan. The forum ran for several days, but on the third day, 29th January, a PUK leader, Omar Mustafa (Omar Dababa), passed away in the forum hall. As a result, the proceedings were suspended for several days, resuming on 2nd February in Erbil.
The first forum was an important station and a turning point in the history of the PUK, as the armed struggle in the mountains turned into a democratic struggle in the cities, after the uprising of March 1991.
During the forum, the internal regulations were amended, and President Mam Jalal was re-elected as Secretary-General of the PUK. Thus, the first forum of the PUK concluded its work successfully.
