The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc in the Iraqi parliament is making efforts to locate the missing children from Halabja, having formally written to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding this matter.

Chro Hama Sharif, an MP of the PUK bloc, told PUKMEDIA: "We raised the issue of the missing children from Halabja in the Iraqi parliament, and it was agreed that a parliamentary delegation, along with the relevant authorities, would visit the Islamic Republic of Iran to locate these missing children."

She added: "At our request, a meeting was convened with the Federal Martyrs Foundation, the Ministries of Interior, Foreign Affairs, Health, and Martyrs and Anfal in the Kurdistan Regional Government, as well as the Iranian Consulate, to discuss the issue of the missing children."

She further explained: "Based on the data we have, there are 74 families still waiting to know the fate of their missing children, totalling 211 children who were taken to the Islamic Republic of Iran during the chemical bombing of the city in 1988."

She highlighted that the PUK bloc provides a new service to the people of this martyred city each year when marking the Halabja tragedy on 16th March, and this year they aim to provide another service, which is to locate these missing children.

The Halabja Genocide

On 16th March 1988, the city of Halabja endured one of the most horrific crimes against humanity when it was bombed with chemical weapons. This attack resulted in the martyrdom of 5,000 innocent people, including hundreds of women, elderly individuals, and children.

The tragedy of Halabja is a crime that stains humanity, marking 16th March 1988 as a day when the Kurdish people suffered the most brutal Genocide.
