Samir Hawrami, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Region's Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani.
The spokesperson for the Kurdistan Region's Deputy Prime Minister denied all rumours about the distribution of positions of the next Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) among the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), stating that the PUK and KDP have not discussed the distribution of posts.
Samir Hawrami, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Region's Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani, stated at a news conference that the PUK and KDP had not discussed the distribution of government positions for the next cabinet.
A committee has been formed by the PUK and KDP to draft a joint proposal for the form of governance in the Kurdistan Region, and after the project has been prepared and approved by both parties, discussions will be undertaken about the division of posts, according to Hawrami.
He also dismissed rumours that the PUK had asked the People's Front to meet.
Regarding the Kurdistan Region's civil servant salaries, Hawrami said: "There are still technical and political issues between the Iraqi and KRG Ministries of Finance, but work are on to fix them, and we seek to resolve the issue of civil servant salaries in 2025."
The Kurdistan parliamentary elections were held in October of last year, and the Kurdistan Region is currently awaiting the formation of its new cabinet.
It is anticipated that the two victorious parties, the PUK and the KDP, will come to an agreement to form the next government because a number of parties have already stated that they will function as opposition parties in the parliament.
As tensions between the KRG and the Iraqi federal government cause delays in the payment of civil servant salaries, which are currently a major issue in the Kurdistan Region, the PUK insists that the next government be service-oriented and prioritise the needs of the people.
