The Presidencies of Iraq held a meeting on Wednesday 8th January 2025, at the Baghdad Palace, attended by the President of the Republic of Iraq, Dr Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, the Speaker of the Iraqi parliament, Dr. Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, and the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faiq Zidan.
The discussions centred around preparations for the 2025 parliamentary elections and the need to ensure the necessary logistical and technical support for the Independent High Electoral Commission.
On the financial front, the meeting addressed issues of cash liquidity and the funding of ministries and governorates from both the investment budget and the regional development budget. Emphasis was placed on the importance of fulfilling the financial obligations of institutions and ministries, while adhering to standards of oversight and auditing of expenditures to safeguard public funds and combat corruption.
The delay in presenting certain key draft laws prepared by the Presidency of the Republic to the Iraqi parliament was also discussed. The need for closer cooperation and coordination between the Presidency and the parliament was highlighted, particularly to ensure the inclusion of these delayed laws in the parliament's agenda, as they are vital to the interests and well-being of the citizens.
The attendees stressed the importance of supporting the government in completing its programme, with a focus on improving public services, enhancing the living standards of citizens, supporting the Iraqi economy, and encouraging the private sector to contribute to comprehensive development.
Regarding regional developments, the meeting underscored the need to strengthen security, peace, and stability in the region, and the importance of supporting international efforts to contain crises and resolve issues through constructive dialogue, which fosters international peace and security.
