In 2024, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has allocated $8 billion for the importation of products and has granted over 180 export licenses to traders.
Nawzad Sheikh Kamil, Director General of Trade at the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), stated that the Ministry spent $8 billion in 2024 for importing goods from Türkiye, Iran, China, the United States, and Gulf countries, primarily encompassing the chemical industry, food products, animal products, and all licensed trade goods. He also noted that the Ministry issued over 180 export licenses to traders this year.
Additionally, he stated: "Our ministry's objective for 2025 is to establish offices of the General Directorate of Trade at the international border crossings of Ibrahim Khalil, Haji Omeran, Parwezkhan, and Bashmakh. These offices will function as the General Directorate of Trade and issue licenses."
"This year, we will focus on digitising food receipts. To facilitate this, a committee from Baghdad will visit the Kurdistan Region and Erbil as a case study to implement the digitisation process," he stated.
