PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani & Russian CG Maxim Rubin's meeting.
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received Maxim Rubin, Russian consul general in the Kurdistan Region, in Dabashan, Sulaymaniyah.
The two sides underscored enhancing relations and broadening collaboration to safeguard the paramount interests and stability of the region.
They also deliberated about the recent political events and developments in the Middle East, particularly the situation in Syria. Both parties underscored that dialogue and understanding must serve as the foundation for resolving the challenges and emphasised that the rights of all communities must be protected within the context of a stable country.
President Bafel highlighted the PUK's stance on all matters, stating: “Our policy is to pursue peaceful solutions and engage in dialogue. We support any initiative focused on safeguarding the rights of the Kurdish people and ensuring regional stability. The current circumstances in Syria require understanding and genuine partnership. We hope that everyone will exert efforts with this ethos for the future of the nation and the welfare of its citizens."
The formation of the future government of the Kurdistan Region was another subject of discussion during the meeting, in which President Bafel stated: “Radical change in the governance process is a crucial necessity at this stage. The forthcoming government must deliver services fairly. It must aim to empower and rejuvenate Kurdistan, rather than to discriminate and manipulate power for party gain.
