PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani.
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), issued statement on the recent events in Syria, reaffirming support for Rojava and emphasising that without a resolution to Kurdish issue, there can be no lasting peace in the Middle East.
PUK President's full statement said:
Over the past few days, we have been closely monitoring the events and developments in Syria and Rojava, and we are looking at the changes and their impact with interest.
We deeply respect the will of the Syrian people and the decisions they make regarding their country’s future, provided these are made within a framework that safeguards the rights of all communities and acknowledges the political realities on the ground. We hope this critical juncture will be used as an opportunity to establish a new era of governance and justice, built on a shared national vision, to secure a stable and prosperous future for all Syrians.
In this sensitive and challenging time, we reaffirm our unwavering support for our brothers and sisters in Rojava. It is essential that we stand together, united in voice and purpose, to support their aspirations and confront the threats to their lives and stability.
Finally, we stress the importance of respecting and protecting the rights of the Kurdish people. Achieving peace and coexistence in the region hinges on wise and just decisions. As we have said before, without a resolution to the Kurdish issue, there can be no lasting peace in the Middle East.
