PUK Spokesperson Saadi Ahmed Pire.
The
spokesperson of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) states that the sessions of the Kurdistan Parliament will remain
open until a political agreement is reached between the parties to elect the
speaker of parliament.
PUK
Spokesperson Saadi Ahmed Pire informed PUKMEDIA that no plans have been made
for a meeting between the PUK and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) to date.
"Nevertheless,
our meetings persist, and we remain receptive to any party seeking to come to
an agreement with us," he stated.
"The
sessions of the Kurdistan Parliament will remain open until a political
agreement is reached between the parties to elect the speaker of parliament,
which will pave the way for determining the positions to form the
government," he added.
The
first session of the sixth term of the Kurdistan Parliament commenced last
week, with 97 MPs taking the oath in the presence of consuls and
representatives from 19 countries in the Kurdistan Region. Due to a lack of quorum, the session remained open,
and the election of the speaker, deputy speaker, and secretary of the
parliament remains to be addressed in the next round of the first session.
Pire
further stated: "People have lost confidence, so we must review our past
actions and correct the course of governance."
The
election for the sixth term of the Kurdistan Parliament took place on October
20, 2024, across four electoral constituencies, where the PUK secured major
victories in all four constituencies, increasing both its vote share and its
representation with 23 seats in the parliament.
