Sulaymaniyah Protest.
New protests by teachers and public employees
began in Sulaymaniyah on Saturday, December 7, 2024, in response to the delay
of paying their wages for October, November, and December.
The demonstrators demanded immediate payment
of their salaries, protesting against delays exceeding two months, and called
for justice in this matter.
According to PUKMEDIA's follow-up, the Iraqi
federal government transferred 763 billion dinars last week for the October
salaries of public employees; however, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)
asserts that it needs 998 billion
dinars monthly to disburse salaries.
The KRG declines to release the October salary
list, citing that the funds provided by Baghdad are inadequate to cover all
payments.
Meanwhile, according to the figures provided
by the KRG's Ministry of Finance, non-oil revenues amount to over 300 billion
dinars per month, which proves that the government can cover the deficit in
salary funds of at least two months.
