On Monday, December 2, 2024, Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met with Elbrus Kutrashev, the Russian Ambassador to Iraq, in Erbil. Various matters of shared interest were addressed during the meeting.
Daban Shadala, Deputy Head of the Kurdistan Regional Government's Department of Foreign Relations, and Maxim Rubin, Russian Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, attended the meeting.
DPM Talabani referenced the first session of the current term of the Kurdistan Parliament and hoped that subsequent to this session, parties will boost their efforts to reach understandings and consensus on the establishment of the next government.
He stated that the Kurdistan Region has endured a challenging decade, and the next government must be established to fulfil the aspirations of Kurdish citizens and serve the Kurdish people fairly.
The two parties also deliberated on recent developments in the region and shared perspectives regarding the situation in Syria and its implications for the stability of Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and the broader area. Both parties hoped that the political parties in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, along with both the federal and Kurdistan Regional Governments, would act in a manner that ensures the stability of Iraq and Kurdistan.
