Dr. Miran Mohammed, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) candidate for the sixth term of the Kurdistan Parliament, confirmed that today’s session will be dedicated solely to the swearing-in of the new parliamentarians.
"Once the oath is taken, the PUK will focus on fulfilling the promises made during the election campaign, with a particular emphasis on serving the people," he stated.
Meanwhile, Kurdistan Parliament Advisor Tariq Jawhar Sarmami warned that any faction or MP who fails to attend sessions within 30 days of the swearing-in will lose their right to remain a member of parliament.
The first session of the sixth term of the Kurdistan Parliament will be held today, December 2, 2024. During the session, all successful candidates will take the oath of office.
The Kurdistan Parliament consists of 100 seats, five of which are reserved for minorities.
The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan secured major victories in all four constituencies, increasing both its vote share and its representation with 23 seats. The final results were formally approved by the Independent High Electoral Commission on 18th November 2024, after all appeals against the outcome were dismissed.
