Iraqi Parliament to Discuss Key Budget Amendments & Oil Export Law

The Iraqi parliament is set to hold its 17th regular session today, Tuesday, to discuss several draft laws, with the most significant being an amendment to the budget law.

Dr. Bryar Rashid, a representative of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc, informed PUKMEDIA that the session will take place as scheduled. He further explained that during the session, MPs will vote on the draft law to ratify the air transport services agreement between the Government of Iraq and the Russian Federation. 

Dr. Rashid added that the session will include the first reading of a draft law amending the Civil Aviation Law (No. 148 of 1974) and the first reading of a draft law amending the Federal General Budget Law of the Republic of Iraq for the fiscal years 2023, 2024, and 2025. In addition, there will be a report and discussion on the second reading of the draft law amending the Civil Defence Law (No. 44 of 2013).

Regarding the amendment of Article 12, Karwan Yarwais, an MP from the PUK bloc, told PUKMEDIA that the parliament will discuss changes to Article 12 of the Budget Law, which pertains to the export of oil from the Kurdistan Region. 

He added that following discussions between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, the federal government has agreed to amend this article, and the Iraqi parliament will now review and vote on the proposed change.
