On Monday, November 18, 2024, Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, welcomed a delegation from the United States (US) - Kurdistan Business Council, led by President of the Council David Tafuri, to discuss strategies for enhancing trade relations between the United States and Kurdistan.
DPM Talabani, one of the founders of the US-Kurdistan Business Council, reaffirmed his support of the council and hoped that the number of member companies in the council would increase.
"The council is expanding annually, signifying a growing interest among US companies and businesses in collaborating with the Kurdistan Region," he remarked.
The discussion also addressed the post-election phase in Kurdistan, during which the Deputy Prime Minister reiterated the necessity of establishing a new service government that fulfils the aspirations of Kurdish citizens and allies of the Kurdistan Region promptly.
He emphasised the necessity of a constitution for the Kurdistan Region, stating: "It is the responsibility of this parliamentary term to develop the constitution and amend or approve laws that promote investment in Kurdistan."
The meeting also addressed the regional instability and the persistent threat of terrorism. DPM Talabani stated that the Islamic State (ISIS) continues to pose a significant threat to regional security and stability, exemplified by yesterday's tragedy in which three people were martyred by an IED planted by the terrorist organisation.
He stated: "The incident demonstrates the necessity for enhanced cooperation and coordination among the Kurdistan and Iraqi security forces, and US forces in the battle against terrorism."
The delegation of the US-Kurdistan Business Council expressed gratitude to DPM Talabani for his ongoing support. They affirmed that the Kurdistan Region offers a peaceful and suitable environment for investment and trade in the region, and in this regard, they conveyed their desire to collaborate more with the Kurdistan Region.
